Each board is cut, drilled and polished by hand from genuine natural marble, and every ball is turned and finished individually. Marble veining forms over millions of years as mineral impurities settle through limestone under heat and pressure, which is why colour depth, vein direction and flecking differ between boards, between balls and between batches. Small variations in tone, in the exact depth of each well and in the edge profile are characteristic of hand-finished natural stone rather than faults. The underside is fitted with a bonded felt base. Because the stone is worked by hand rather than moulded, a set that photographs as one thing will always arrive as a slightly different one, which is the trade you make for owning something cut from real rock.
