Every holder starts as natural terracotta, the iron-rich earthenware clay that turns its familiar warm red-orange in the kiln as the iron oxide in the clay reacts to heat. Artisans shape the crock by hand, dry it, and fire it. We leave the surface unglazed, so you get the matte texture and slight variation in tone that only raw clay has; no two pieces are identical, and a faint throwing line or a small tonal shift is the mark of a hand-built piece, not a defect. A felt pad is fixed to the base before the holder ships in branded packaging designed to protect fragile goods, ready to use or to give.

Clean it in the dishwasher, or wash it by hand with water and mild soap. Terracotta is porous, so let the holder dry completely before you put utensils back in.The holder is also microwave and oven safe. Before first use, peel the backing off the felt pad and press it onto the clean, dry base.
